statement

I have pursued the life of a professional photographer for the past twenty-five years. Photography provides me with an insightful way to investigate the world. It has disciplined me to look closely at my subjects and to capture their essence in my images. I get great pleasure from the organic world, and it is there that I go in search of peace from our everyday rat race. When life's elements are reduced to simple forms, I can see into things with a clearer eye, and my understanding of life and relationships takes on deeper meaning.

The camera is a wonderful tool that allows me to expand reality by stripping away superfluous details, thus revealing information that unveils the secret of the moment. I look at things and try to understand what they can teach us and what insights I can extract from them in order to share their beauty.

With the threat of environmental sabotage looming, I want the work to convey the sense of urgency; to make people realize that we need to protect and appreciate nature and the depth of the gifts it offers. I want to provide a point of departure from which the exploration into the beauty and mystery of our natural world can begin, and the necessity of balance understood. The marriage of environmental concern with an obsession for observation has made this a project that will always have significance in my life, and has given me a voice to address something of great importance to all of us.
